This experience provided additional perspective on the history of Rome. It was refreshing to get out of the city centre and be in nature. Our guide was excellent. She was knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating. The tour was an excellent complement to our visit. Our friends told us about this experience and I’m glad that they did. Our family of ten did this tour and we all absolutely loved it! What a great way to see other parts of the city. Our tour guide, Philippe was amazing and so good with the less experienced riders. Lunch was great and it was amazing to see the ancient and modern aqueducts. 10/10 would recommend!

This tour has to be the absolute best way to see the Appian Way, Catacombs and the Aqueduct park. The bikes were excellent, our guide Bruno, was just a delightful person who was very knowledgeable about the historical features on our way. Our daughter is 12, and she easily handled the experience and had a really fun time. It is one of the stand out moments from our trip to Rome.

I am not a guided tour person, and I was hemming and hawing about going on an e-bike tour, but holy cow that was so incredibly worth it! I thought we were just biking on the Appian Way, but the guide took us all over, including a tour of the Catacombs, a visit to the aqueduct park, a cute little back country road through farmland, and we had the most incredible lunch afterward. Ive been recommending the tour to everyone who’s asked me about what to do in Rome. Cant recommend this enough!

An Incredible Way to See Rome — Zak Made It Even Better!

This was easily one of the most memorable experiences of our time in Rome.

Our Appian Way & Aqueducts E-Bike Tour gave us a completely different perspective on the city, and Zak was an absolutely fantastic guide. He was knowledgeable, personable, patient, and clearly passionate about the history of Rome. He had a great way of explaining what we were seeing without ever making it feel like a history lecture. He brought the history to life while keeping the entire experience relaxed and fun.

The e-bikes were fantastic and made exploring such a large area incredibly enjoyable. Before long, we were away from the busy center of Rome, riding along ancient roads and through the countryside with thousands of years of history surrounding us.

Riding the Appian Way was incredible, and seeing the enormous Roman aqueducts stretching across the landscape was one of the highlights. You can see photographs of these places, but actually riding alongside them while Zak explained their history gives you an entirely different appreciation for what the Romans accomplished.

The catacombs were another fascinating part of the experience and gave us a glimpse into a completely different chapter of Roman history.

What really made the day special was the combination of everything—the bikes, the countryside, the Appian Way, the aqueducts, the catacombs, the food, and especially Zak. It never felt like we were simply moving from one attraction to another. It felt like we were actually riding through the history of Rome.

If you're visiting Rome and want to experience something beyond the usual sightseeing, do this tour. And if you get Zak as your guide, even better.

Sylvia, our guide, is extremely skilled at moving a group through the cobblestoned streets of Rome to reach the sites and ruins. For bike trail riders, navigating the traffic and roads through the city portion of the tour might be a wee bit intimidating.

Riding along the ancient aqueducts was epic! One of the highlights of our trip to Italy. The prospect of a 5 hour tour in afternoon sun sounded rough, but it was actually super enjoyable and easy. The catacombs provided a great way to cool off. Sylvia did a great job leading our group at a relaxed pace. We all had so much fun. Definitely recommend.

I have done many different types of tours in Italy over the years including private boat tours to Capri from Amalfi and Priano,goat and cheese farm tour, olive and balsamic tour, Pompei and Herculaneum and this tour ranks very high on the list.

Bruno is an outstanding guide and he knows his stuff. The tour takes you down one of the great roads of history, and includes a visit to San Sebastián catacombes and the beautiful and peaceful church there, down the sometimes bumpy Appian Way, to the Aqueduct Park through beautiful forest and nice bike trails, through some neighborhoods in Rome. A fantastic journey with a stop for great hot lunch with great meats.

I highly recommend this great trip through history, the nice and healthy bike touring (e-bikes are awesome but go slow on the downhills as the bike can pick up a lot of speed) which is an awesome way to tour.

We have been to Rome many times but never have made time to go out to see the Apian Way, catacombs, and aquaducts. We set up this ebike tour and were completely elated with how much fun we had on the trip. Silvia our guide did a wonderful job with guiding us along the way. She was very informative and made sure we had plenty of water breaks along the way since we were touring in 100 degree heat. We got to travel through the park on dirt trails as well. We will be doing this tour again when we come back. It was that great. The ebikes are top quality and very comfortable. Silvia was awesome. Great way to see the city. EMTB bikes were great for the bumpy Appian Way, but there were some smoother options available to bypass some of the bumpier sections. Pretty easy biking, although some minimum bike handling skills are recommend. Aqueducts were a highlight.

We were thinking, do we really want to spend 4.5 hours of our trip on bikes. Spoiler alert - absolute best part of our entire trip to Rome. This was my favorite thing I did in Rome. Silvia, our guide was fantastic! She took the time to learn everyone's names and really get to know each person. One of our favourite days in Rome. The bikes were very easy to ride, even without previous e-bike experience. A wonderful tour and escape from the busyness of the city. Bikes were well maintained and Silvia was a great guide. The catacombs were interesting and the communal food was enjoyable. In terms of strength, the ebikes do the work. In terms of cycling skills, there were some tricky bits from the word go. There is a bit of Road cycling at the beginning and end which can be daunting, cycling on the ancient paving stones is wobbly and there were a few gravelly and narrow downhills to navigate. Our guide did a great job expertly guiding us through the crazy Rome streets and on this wonderful, unique tour. The bikes were good quality. The Appian way part of the tour is quite bumpy and definitely requires a level of skill above basic ~ more toward mountain biking. As someone who does a lot of road biking, I could manage it, but it was a bit challenging at times.
The catacomb tour was so fascinating and well worth it. Aqueduct park was a super cool place to ride.
Lastly we enjoyed a nice aperitivo with our guide. This was a great, unique adventure in Rome that I highly recommend to anyone who has the skill level for it.

This was such a fun afternoon... Bruno was our guide and he was so lovely, very knowledgeable, great fun and cheeky too. He navigated us out of the city easily and safely. The ebikes were easy to ride, the history and scenery were incredible. Lots of photo stops. We had a great group too, when we stopped at the lovely country restaurant none of us wanted to leave. We had such a fun bike ride to the catacombs, the Appian road and along the ancient Roman aqueduct! It was surreal to be just outside of the city and yet see goats, dirt roads and the ancient aqueduct!

The electric bikes are pedal assist, but they are heavy duty and honestly do most of the work! We biked 16 miles in the heat- the wind rushing as we biked felt amazing! Our tour guide was fantastic (sorry I forgot his name- from Portugal I think ) but he gave lots of history and knew lots of pop culture! He was super fun- a great tour guide. He was great about spacing the stops and giving us great information about the history of the area. I highly recommend this tour! We even had a delicious lunch (lasagna, with a super tasty lemon dessert)!

The e-bikes are great fun and as powerful as you need so pretty much anyone can do this as long as you have reasonable balance. The bikes are heavy but you don’t need to carry them so that is not an issue. The guides are really interesting and informative. We enjoyed the tour tremendously and would definitely recommend to friends (as friends had done for us).

This was an absolutely fantastic experience - we booked the day before for the 2pm round. Duarte took great care of our group of 8 French and English speaking tourists as we zipped through traffic to visit catacombs, ride bumpily down the Appian way, enjoy aquaducts, parks just outside of the city and take an apertif before heading back into the chaos of Rome. An excellent adventure, best if you've got a bit of e-bike experience, bring gloves if it's fall/winter as it gets chilly at night! I would strongly recommend this company and this tour specifically.

Our experience with ancient Appian delight was great! The tour was well paced with ample time check out the st Castillo catacombs, enjoy the ancient appian roads on the e bikes and the majestic aqueducts. The tour ended with an evening snack with appertives which was a great way to cap it. Highly recommended.

Great company, easy to book the activity. Nice bikes and helmets. Good instruction and pre-tour practice on using the e-bike. It would have been nice to stop a little more at a few more sights to take more photos, but I understand they need to maintain a pace and need to get back. We were a total group of 8. Our guide, the charming and witty Duarte showed care for everyone and explained the Roman culture, the impact of the Church and the various conquerors and allowed us a reach into thousands year old trade and travel.

We greatly enjoyed this tour! Family of four with two teen boys all agreed it was a great way to do some sight seeing with speed (biking) breaks in between points of interest. It was hot on the day of our tour, but our guide did a good job of stopping in shady spaces for information sharing and warning us when we'd be exposed to the sun for a bit, also while riding the e-bikes it was not too hot as you could minimize muscle effort.
I wouldn't recommend this tour for people who are not comfortable on a bike, as the uneven road surfaces were a bit challenging, but very fun if you are up for it.
Overall, we highly recommend this tour; great guide, solids bikes, interesting stopping points and a delicious lunch!

This was our second time doing this tour and it was just as fun the second time around. Our guide, Bruno, was very knowledgeable of the various ruins on our route, which was welcome information. I highly recommend this tour for a taste of Rome outside the city walls.

This tour was so much fun! The Ebikes are easy to use and they have multiple sizes. The tour guide was great. He did an excellent job at reading our group and knowing when we needed to slow down, speed up. There are a few parts with some traffic and he was amazing at guiding as through so it didn't feel intimidating. The scenery was beautiful and the history was so fun to learn about. I know one thing I was looking for in the reviews was how easy/hard it was. You don't have to be in fantastic shape to do this, but it also isn't easy. You need to be really comfortable on a bike and have some endurance. We all loved the tour, but were very tired by the end! My 12 year old had a really hard time at the end, it was too long for him.

High quality e-bikes with great suspension and multiple assist settings so you can decide how much (or how little) boost you want. The itinerary was beautiful with plenty of stops for water and sightseeing and the lunch at the tennis club was delicious. Did this tour with my twelve year old son and he also gave it two thumbs up. His only complaint was that the max speed on the youth bikes is 5kmph slower than the adult bikes, preventing him from fully unleashing his inner speed demon but heartily appreciated by his more risk averse mother. Highly recommend this tour!

A very informative, thrilling eBike tour of the Appian Way! Our guide was deeply knowledgable and shared a rich history of all the ancient structures and ruins we visited. There was free time to explore on our own, too, and lots of opportunities for photos. Your trip to Rome is not complete without this amazing tour!

The ride was great, scenery terrific, guide was outstanding. This was a 5.5 hour ride through busy streets, road riding, off road riding and cobblestone as well. I would suggest this is for people with riding experience.. not I rode a bike as a kid. Have you gone on road biking, mountain biking and can well handle the bike...then this is for you.... Emon (spelling may be incorrect) was a great guide with good information and always making sure he had his group together and safe from the cars when needing to ride on roads. This was one of our top three tours on a three week vacation through southern Italy; it was my husband's favorite tour in Rome. If you'd enjoy an active tour with an informative and fun guide through the countryside outside of Rome, this one may be for you. It's a great way to see the aqueducts, a castle, and take in a tour of a catacomb as well. The stop at a local restuarant included plentiful yummy food and wine and a chance to relax before heading back to the city. The bikes were well maintained and operated flawlessly. All seemed very safe as the guide negotiated traffic well whenever we crossed a busy highway to get to the country roads. If you want a break from old churches and ruins, this bike tour may be the ticket.

We loved this e-bike tour. The bikes were good; functioned very well and easy to use. The tour guides were great! They were informative, humorous and spoke in many languages. The route was very acceptable, very few rides on main roads, mostly paths and not-so-busy streets. It was a fun ride. Lunch was interesting giving us time to talk with people from other countries who were also on the tour. The location of the bike office is close to the coliseum, which made it easy for us to walk to it, as well as to Michelangelo's Moses and the Basilica of Santi Cosma and Damiano (to see the courtyard and wonderful mosaics). There are other great locations near the bike office as well.

Had a wonderful time on this tour! It's my second with this company, and they didn't disappoint.
I travel a lot, and my baseline for tour value is based on the question, "could I have done something as cool by myself?" And the answer in this case was "nope, this company 100% made the experience"! I wish I'd been able to come on a weekday, as the trail was busy with Sunday picnickers etc, but that's not at all the company's fault. The guide was great, the experience was special, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone!

While not misrepresented, you need to be confident in your ability to not just ride a bike, but be a quick-learn w/gear function & turbo mode. There’s also a decent amount of traffic that you need to pay close attention to the guide & instructions. The ride itself has some bumps (lg, old stones, tree roots) & you should def use a helmet. All this in place, it was one of the best experiences we’ve had. 7 adults had a kid-free day w/glorious weather in March, and I imagine we saw a good stretch of the Appian Way bc of the bikes. Our guide (Mahalo, Mattia, for answering all of my questions!) was a plethora of knowledge & charm. His stories gave us bite-sized pieces of history along the way allowing us to imagine Ancient Rome in its glory, insanity & innovation. Stopping for a 45m tour of the Catecombs, various ruins along the way & finishing off w/a rustic meal in a lovely park (w/homemade vino & espresso sambuca!), this was an absolutely thrilling way to spend a day! Highly, highly recommend!

This tour was fantastic, and our guide Bruno was excellent. I went on several tours during a ten day stay and this was by far the most fun. The bikes are easy to use, the ride is a blast, you can go as fast or as slow as you want, all ages would have fun. I am a fit 72 and it was super easy, so don't let your age stop you either. The sites were world class, Bruno explained the history well, and the stop for wine and food was enchanting. We had group members from Italy, USA, Serbia and France, and it was just great fun.

Our group of 7 (ages 18 - 60) took the afternoon bike trip with Matias and Bruno in late November. It was excellent. We left from their new location near the Colosseum (close to the edge of the City) and headed out to the Via Appia. The E-bikes were comfortable and made the ride easy and fun for all ages/abilities. Views were amazing all along the way and after a stop and tour of the catacombs, we cruised back into Rome as it got dark. We made plenty of stops along the way for photos, coffee/hot chocolate and finally, wrapped up with a drink and light snack at a cute restaurant next to the shop in Rome. Highly recommend this trip for all ages who want an active tour outside of the City. 5 stars in every way! This trip was recommended to us by friends and we will recommend it to anyone who visits Rome.

Wow! This was such an awesome experience for myself, my husband and 17 and 14 year old boys. We all loved it. The bikes were in top condition and easy to ride. Bruno, our guide was the best. We did not feel overloaded with history. The hot chocolate/espresso along the ride hit the spot. The catacombs were interesting. All of this was included in the price.
I would highly recommend this tour. It was an absolute highlight of our time in Rome.

I signed up to do the Appia way tour by myself. I was running late because of a taxi issue but a kind employee (I feel bad for not remembering his name) was able to catch me up to the rest of the group. I did not at all expect this accommodation and was so happy he made it happen! He even helped me out after I took a minor fall (my fault). Once I caught up with the group I felt we were in good hands. I learned a lot and enjoyed being out of the busy city center on the bike. The catacombs and aquaducts were spectacular!

I truly appreciate the emplyee who got me to the group. He went way above and beyond expectations to make this a fun adventure!! I would definitely recommend this company and tour!!!

It was so good we did it twice, the hidden Rome and Ancient Appia Delight tour. The catacombs were surprisingly interesting and the tour fun!

And whilst I was thinking these were fully electric bikes they aren’t, but on turbo, going up steep or off-road was a breeze!

Booking easy, truly recommended a few more beer stops on the way, and would have been heaven :)

Hi, we (me 57, daughters 18 and 21) did two ebike tours in Rome with Esbike Tours, this July, in the same week, we loved it!. Both were about 4 hours, with plenty of breaks. One tour was around Rome city/sights. The other was out into the country along the old Roman road and aquaduct route called the Apian Way. All food and drink was provided, and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the landmarks and history. Bikes really easy to use, no effort at all really because of the battery assistance, even in the July heat!. Felt safe on the roads, but most of the routes are on the smaller roads in Rome, or in the country or on roads closed to traffic. Would recommend ESBike Tours. Gavin.

We did the evening Rome bike tour and had such a great time we came back the next day for the longer tour to the Aqueducts and Appian Way. Leo the guide was extremely knowledgeable and fun to be with. I highly recommend!!
